The Idea

At the heart of Hoseki is a simple yet transformative vision: expressing ownership of Bitcoin seamlessly and privately. Just as asset classes like stocks, bonds, and real estate have established means of proving ownership, Bitcoin too deserves an unobtrusive framework that respects its natively-enforceable property rights.

Currently, Bitcoin is stranded—siloed into various wallets and exchanges, making it a challenge for lenders or brokers to verify assets. Hoseki seeks to change this paradigm. By creating a bridge between traditional finance and the emergent Bitcoin standard, Hoseki ensures that the full potential of your Bitcoin is recognized, building infrastructure where Bitcoin hodlers can effortlessly prove their ownership without moving their Bitcoin or compromising its custody.

User Experience

We confronted some of Bitcoin's most intricate facets head-on. Navigating complexities like UTXO (Unspent Transaction Output) management, multi-signature operations, signature verification, and exchange API authentication, required a depth of understanding and a commitment to user-centric design.

However, our challenge wasn't just to understand and incorporate these complexities, but to abstract them in a way that was digestible for the user, free from the intimidating jargon and daunting interfaces that often accompany them.

User Interface

Our UI aims to strip away unnecessary elements and complexity. Our goal was to reduce cognitive load, allowing users to focus on what truly matters: managing their Bitcoin reserves. In the spirit of accessibility, we also worked to make our interface welcoming and approachable, even for those new to Bitcoin. We replaced industry jargon with everyday language and designed intuitive navigation patterns, making Hoseki accessible and easy to use for everyone.

User Research

In the Bitcoin world, the phrase "Bitcoin fixes this" has become a popular mantra, symbolizing a solution-driven approach to design and development. It often prioritizes the solution before fully understanding the underlying problem.

We chose to approach the design of Hoseki from a different angle. We started with a comprehensive understanding of the problem, delving into the details of what our users needed and the challenges they faced.

A cornerstone of our design process involved extensive user testing. Building interactive prototypes in Figma, simulating the experience our users would face with our app. These prototypes focused on complex Bitcoin transactions like message signing, multi-signature authentication, and extended public key selection.

Testing these prototypes with users allowed us to gain valuable insights directly from our users. This iterative process of design, testing, and refinement ensured that our solutions were tailored to the unique needs of our users. This apporach also allowed us to spot potential issues early on, saving valuable time and resources in the development stage.

Colors

The name "Hoseki" finds its roots in the Japanese word for jewelry, and our color palette is a testament to this luminous inspiration. Our selection of deep sapphire blue, reminiscent of the most sought-after gemstones, channels the age-old allure of precious treasures, while the vibrant yellow echo the timeless appeal of fine gold jewelry. This color combination captures our core philosophy succinctly: Bitcoin, much like gemstones, is a rare and valuable entity.

Proof of Reserves public attestation board

The UX design for the world’s first public Proof of Reserves leaderboard was centered around embodying transparency and trust in a digital realm. Navigating the intricacies of Bitcoin's native auditability, we created an intuitive interface that seamlessly blended Twitter authentication with signature verification, providing users an effortless way to publicly attest their Bitcoin reserves. A beacon of trust and credibility in an industry yearning for it.
